David L. Downing, PsyD. is a graduate of Wright State University School of Professional Psychology in Dayton, Ohio. He received his certificate in psychoanalysis from the Center for Psychoanalytic Study in Chicago. He is the Past-President and current Treasurer of the Chicago Open Chapter for the Study of Psychoanalysis and is the current Treasurer of the International Federation for Psychoanalytic Education. And he is the President of Section IV, Local Chapters, of Division of Psychoanalysis (39), of the American Psychological Association. Dr. Downing is presently Director of Graduate Programs in Psychology and Associate Professor at the University of Indianapolis, School of Psychological Sciences.

Dr. Downing has written and presented on psychoanalytical perspectives on the arts and humanities; the psychoanalytical treatment of severe psychopathology; and psychoanalytical perspectives on organizational and social dynamics, amongst other things. He maintains a private practice in psychoanalysis, psychoanalytical psychotherapy, and consultation/ supervision in Chicago and Indianapolis.
